Southwestern College to Host 18th Annual Youth Basketball Camp

Sponsored by Elite Advertising and Pizza Ranch of Arkansas City, this year’s camp offers more than just skill-building — every camper will receive a camp T-shirt and arcade gift card.

The Southwestern College men’s basketball team, in partnership with the Winfield Recreation Commission, will host its 18th annual youth basketball camp from Tuesday, May 26th through Friday, May 29th at historic Stewart Fieldhouse on the SC campus.

Sponsored by Elite Advertising and Pizza Ranch of Arkansas City, this year’s camp offers more than just skill-building — every camper will receive a camp T-shirt and arcade gift card.

Boys and girls are invited to attend.  Camp for first through fifth graders will be from 9 to 10:15 a.m.; for sixth through ninth graders, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The camp is led by head coach Matt O’Brien, the winningest coach in the program’s 100-year history. Under his leadership, the Moundbuilders have recorded 17 consecutive winning seasons and helped launch several professional careers, including Cameron Hunt (Spain) and Andrew O’Brien (Germany). Matt O’Brien has also built a respected international coaching résumé, having coached in Austria, France, Germany, Barbados, and Spain with select teams from the U.S.

O’Brien’s staff, carefully selected for their character, work ethic, and basketball knowledge, includes coaches from across the U.S. and will be joined by current and former SC players to lead daily instruction.

Cost for the camp experience is $55, and includes a t-shirt and a Pizza Ranch arcade gift card. For more information or to sign up for the camp, contact the Winfield Recreation Commission at (620) 221-2160.  You may also register online at www.winfieldrec.com.
