Southwestern’s Hidalgo Named KCAC Defensive Player Of The Week

For the week, Hidalgo averaged 12 points, 13 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and one assist per game, helping Southwestern secure wins over both Spurgeon and York.

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College Senior Zach Hidalgo was named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Moundbuilders in a pair of decisive wins last week.

Hidalgo, a Hooker, Oklahoma native, posted a double-double against Spurgeon College, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds to go along with one assist and one block in a 107-64 victory at Stewart Fieldhouse. He followed that performance with another strong outing versus York University, recording 10 points, 12 rebounds, one assist and two blocks as Southwestern cruised to a 91-64 win over the Panthers.

For the week, Hidalgo averaged 12 points, 13 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and one assist per game, helping Southwestern secure wins over both Spurgeon and York.

On the season, Hidalgo is averaging 7.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting nearly 60% from the field.

The Moundbuilders have won four straight games and will look to continue their momentum Wednesday, Jan. 7, when they host Evangel University for a 7 p.m. tipoff in Winfield, Kansas.
