Valentino Garavani, the legendary Italian fashion designer whose work defined red-carpet glamour for decades, has died at the age of 93.
His foundation and his official Instagram account, @realmrvalentino, announced his death in a post shared Jan. 19, stating that Garavani passed away at his home in Rome, surrounded by loved ones. No cause of death was disclosed.
Garavani, who founded the luxury fashion house that bears his name, retired from design in 2008 following an illustrious career dressing some of the world’s most celebrated women, including Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana, Joan Collins, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Penélope Cruz and Sharon Stone.
He was also renowned for creating his signature hue, “Valentino Red,” a vivid crimson with a hint of orange that became synonymous with the brand.
“I love beauty. It is not my fault. And I know what women want: they want to be beautiful,” Garavani once said reflecting on his lifelong devotion to fashion.
